ICE melts and Minnesota garbage

Won’t ICE melt in New Orleans?

Homeland Security is now going to move away from mass arrests and focus on arresting and deporting criminals. What, no more glam shots of Kristi (Border Barbie) Noem with her hair extensions and false eyelashes preening before the cameras in full battle gear? Why Homeland Security would make this public is beyond me but more fundamentally, what is going to be the reaction of the “deport them all” crowd? Will this erode the support of the MAGA Trumpers? Supposedly, ICE is changing its tactics because the public is souring on reports of little old ladies being snatched off the streets. But I am not in favor of deporting criminals. How many have simply reentered and perpetrated more crimes? I say lock them up!

Trump’s approval of ICE tactics is down to 33 percent which may have something to do with the change in tactics. Now will ICE go ahead with the Louisiana “Swamp Sweep” where 250 ICE personnel were to descend on New Orleans with the goal of arresting 5,000 illegals? Makes sense to me. It is getting too cold to stay in Chicago so let’s head to where it is warmer and have beignets and crawfish etouffee instead of deep dish pizza. But then again, you would think that ICE would prefer the cold. And don’t you think “Swamp Sweep” more aptly applies to the land of the Alligator Alcatraz?

In preparation ICE has opened a detention facility at Louisiana’s notorious Angola prison where stabbings were so common it was dubbed the “bloodiest prison in the south.” You mean there were bloodier ones elsewhere? If you have read any of James Lee Burke’s novels featuring Dave Robicheaux and Clete Purcell you know of the horrors of being incarcerated at Angola. Once more, why detention? Why not incarceration?

Minnesota garbage?

I cannot be the only one appalled by our president’s language. His tweets are full of insults and coarseness. He lashes out at friends and foes alike. His vitriol knows no boundaries. I would be tempted to say that being president is wearing him down. That may be true but he has always been crude. I admire those on the receiving end who respond without lashing back. Jay Powell is one. Marjorie Taylor Greene is another. However, Ilhan Omar had a sharp response to Trump regarding his comments on Somalis and her. Trump called all Somalis “garbage” and that the Somalis ought to go back where they came from. Since the vast majority of them were born in the United States, I guess that Minnesota would be where they came from. He said that “I don’t want them in our country.” He said that Omar was “the worst Congressman/woman” and “Ilhan Omar, always wrapped in her swaddling hijab, and who probably came into the USA illegally in that you are not allowed to marry your brother, does nothing but hatefully complain about our country, its Constitution, and how badly she is treated. I always watch her. She hates everybody. And I think she’s an incompetent person. She’s a real terrible person.”

In response, Omar’s tweeted “Trump’s obsession with me is beyond weird. He needs serious help. Since he has no economic policies to tout, he’s resorting to regurgitating bigoted lies instead. He continues to be a national embarrassment.” She went on to say “I would say the President’s obsession with me and the Somali community is really unhealthy. It’s creepy. And I hope that he gets the help that he needs. It sounds like he is trying to deflect from the failures that he’s had as president. His immigration rates are not going in the way that he’s expected. We know that the tariffs are not working to make life affordable for Americans. We know that he is afraid of what is in the Epstein files, as he’s fought to be the head of the pedophile protection party. And we know that right now he is being investigated for war crimes that he might have committed when he ordered what seems to be illegal attacks against boats in the Caribbean.” She then added “He’s always been a racist, bigot, xenophobic and Islamophobic.” (Pedophile protection party? Ouch).

If Trump feels this way because of a $1 billion fraud, what does he think about the Italians and the Italian Mafia? Are they garbage too? Apparently not, since he lavished praise on the Italians and Christopher Columbus while denouncing Indigenous Peoples Victim Day a while back. BTW do you think the Minnesota officials were looking the other way because the money being defrauded was federal dollars and not the state’s and the fraudsters were people of color?

Finally, in proper perspective the Somali fraud is small potatoes. The federal government loses around $500 billion annually to fraud. Apparently, there is a lot more garbage out there than just in Minnesota.

  1. Your column seems to be fixated on Trump’s tweets rather than Trump’s policies. He is what he is as far as tweets go. In the political arena however his crudeness / coarseness is no match for the opposition’s responses. He’s been called Hitler as were his Republican predecessors some stop with the criticism of his tweets,

Rep. Omar has shown herself to be a Somali in sheep’s clothing. She is not a fan of this country nor does she celebrate its origins. She appears to be here only to financially profit from the courageous acts of this country’s past heroes.. Her hatred of Israel and her consistent opposition to the Jewish people is a reflection of her commitment to Islam rather than the good of the USA.

As for ICE and Ms. Noem, I would have thought her personal appearance would have been of little concern to you but your column mentions articles of personal enhancement as if those were somehow unworthy of a person in the spotlight. You are better than that. I trust that every illegal in this country whether dangerous or not will be identified and removed. Windows have been broken and the public will be much better off having lawbreakers held accountable for their illegal actions.

I would not worry about the Epstein files. If there were anything in them to embarrass the Republicans Biden would have had them released on Day 1. As it were the Jan 6 show trials amounted to very little save the few hundred who suffered incarceration for a trap set by Pelosi on the ignorant.

    Have a blessed day!

    1. Thanks for the criticism. Some of what I do is satire although I fall shy of the Babylon Bee. Virtually all of the president’s policies you listed yesterday I have supported in past posts. I still support them. But regarding the tweets, is it too much for me to wish that the president were
more “presidential “? Do you think it appropriate to call an entire people “garbage “? But I do think that everything he says about Omar is true. Again thanks.

  2. Well, one comment is back to Biden- and rightfully so. The way Life works is, eventually people start feeling sorry for the target. It works with Trump..

Yes, never been to N.O. but know people who live there…great place to winter, and the food is good….
Excellent point that food is just as good a rationale as a military coup..

Angola prison: never been there but watch it on TV. Interesting tidbit I already knew: …
…..”Yes, at Louisiana’s Angola Prison, deceased inmates are often buried with dignified funeral rites that include inmate-built caskets and a procession to the cemetery …
in a horse-drawn carriage, ….a practice that provides purpose, deals with mortality, and fosters rehabilitation through inmate-led services, including grooming the horses and driving the hearse…….”
I know it is mandatory for admin to walk in- procession..

Just read about the Black women of WW II who were assigned to support the war effort by getting mail – and Christmas cookies- to the troops. Biden ..oops.. gave a formal recognition to these vets. Trump removed any digital and signage that recognized the efforts of these Black women..
Has the Minnesota Garbage said anything about that?

    1. Didn’t know about Trump’s erasure of the tribute to the black women soldiers in WWII. They were the 688 Postal Battalion who processed millions of letters to the soldiers during the war. Their contribution to morale is incalculable. If the Trumpers want to rid history of racial recognition then they would have to erase all history.

  3. In light of Mr. Trump’s ridiculously low (even by his standards) social media post regarding Rob Reiner (who was exceedingly bombastic in his own liberality), it’s hard to find bright spots in his character and presidency right now.

The positions you call out on ICE don’t help the cause. He could have simply quit making it some kind of “Trump Crusades 2025 version,” and had ICE do the job they’re legally mandated to do, focusing on criminal elements who need to be – as you rightly said – incarcerated and penalized, not granted a free ride home with Biscoff cookies and a Coke.

Near my hometown – in Bryan County, GA – Trump had ICE agents arrest and deport 300 South Koreans who apparently had visa violations due to how they processed in some months ago. They raided a brand new Hyundai EV plant that has brought thousands of jobs to that South Georgia market, and a number of halo industries that come with it. South Korean officials were rightly angry at the treatment – I’m shocked that they’d come back! Is this how we treat those who are investing in this country? Apparently so, in the Trump way.

Ilhan Omar is a reckless huckster who represents 700,000 people who somehow think that it’s okay to setup shop inside of this country as a country unto itself. Another “sanctuary” for those who simply refuse to assimiliate into the melting pot of America, and foresake our flag for the one of their ancestry. EVEN STILL – based on Trump’s trumpeting of idiocy, he makes her look almost right and reasonable. What evidence can he give to the contrary? In his last term, he simply canvasses all African nations as s*%&hole countries – and all of his loyal subjects who cannot think for themselves simply applaud and agree.

Does any reasonable, discerning person really believe – based on his own legacy and history – that Mr Trump’s hands are clean in the Epstein saga? Does anyone really believe that in the presence of a malevolent like Epstein, surrounded by attractive young women and based on his history that Mr Trump was simply there for the party?

Yes, Minnesota is dirty. So is California, New York and definitely Illinois. The swamp is deep, dark and malodorous. Who can change it?

    1. Would be interested if you live in TN. Because I do, and use other social media to talk TN..
Bill Lee ran as a dairy farmer, but pore ole Lee is actually a major developer.
He was called a RINO by Trump47, and the admin of Trump45 called Lee a Communist dupe..

Knox County mayor Glenn Jacobs came to my house, talking his Libertarian platform- but during a debate he announced he was Republican. No one cheered, for we knew he was now bought and paid for by ….whom?..
After his term- limiting second win, he and Larson Jay immediately started removing laws that impeded developers..
Why isn’t Trump calling the DOJ to find out how much money developers gave to Jacobs?..

Please name any politician of any party that didn’t leave office as millionaires.

      1. Good questions.

Yes – I’ve lived in TN (Knox Co) for 17 years and have seen what you’re saying. I don’t agree with everything Libertarians hold, but I’m in far more agreement with them than the left.

Glenn has to say he’s with the GOP, because he can’t win otherwise. I don’t have a problem with someone who says they have strong libertarian leanings, yet they’re registered as the GOP. Maybe they’re called “realists.”

Burchett is maybe chasing the right rabbit – if you’re elected to office, you should not be able to PURCHASE new OR SELL individual stocks that you come into office with. You should be able to have a CFP or broker handle index mutual funds for you, but there should be a pre-determined selling window every year for congress. And while we’re at it – since ObamaCare is so grand, how about our politicians owning their own marketplace policies?

      2. A libertarian can be Republican or Dem. Just a matter of conscience. GJ ran against a Dem- he would have won by an anti- Dem vote..
Altho Linda Haney would have been just as good a county mayor as GJ- an outsider who came to erase our culture and community- by focusing on .. anybody .. who doesn’t live here..
Same with that Georgia plant, ridiculous that those jobs belong to Georgians..
Anyone can take those jobs. I don’t know of Georgian acquaintances that knew about the plant until ICE..
And have you heard of the So. Korean presence in Atlanta- that are not construction temp workers?
