White folk against “white supremacy”

I am not going to spend a significant amount of time on Mamdani and New York City. But true to his word he is going to govern like a socialist. That shows up in his appointments some of whom appear to be on the lunatic fringe of the far far left. Particularly noteworthy is his choice of activist Cea Weaver for the “Office to Protect Tenants” – yes there is such a thing. Weaver, who is white, is on record as saying that home ownership is “a weapon of white supremacy” – whatever that means. She, like Mamdani, wants to seize private property. For her, now being the rent control czar, this means denying rent increases to drive down the value of rental housing to the point where the landlords will be forced to sell to the city. When Weaver was confronted by the fact that her mother, a professor at Vanderbilt, is living in a home in Nashville valued at $1.4 million, Weaver reacted by crying and running away from the reporter. Now we all know that a $1.4 million house in Nashville is no mansion – neither are the ones in Knoxville for that matter. I wonder if Weaver thinks her mother being a homeowner is also a “white supremacist?” Why is Weaver, like Mamdani, and all these socialists children of privilege? This woman is clearly another poster child for the left’s lunatic fringe.

Real cocaine smugglers versus alleged ones

Have you noticed that all the reports of the navy blowing up those speedboats in the eastern Caribbean say that they were “alleged” cocaine boats? Isn’t there any evidence? Well it seems that it is better to be a real one than an alleged one. For decades the Coast Guard has the task of apprehending those running cocaine in the Caribbean. They still do. Between September 1 and November 30, the Coast Guard reported stopping 38 boats carrying drugs. During the same period the navy blew up 22 boats killing 83 people. What happened to the people captured by the Coast Guard? They were set free! The “Justice” Department’s Pam (Blondie) Bondi chose not to prosecute them. WTF? For example, on November 19, a Coast Guard cutter returned to Port Everglades after seizing 49,010 pounds of cocaine in 15 boat interdictions. Guess the navy didn’t have a chance to blow them up. “The cutter took custody of 36 smuggling suspects during the mission, repatriated 29 to Ecuador for prosecution and referred the others to the Justice Department.” I wonder if the “Justice” Department will seek the death penalty? Oh wait, they can’t. Under U.S. law, the death penalty generally is not available in drug cases. The only death penalty that is enacted is if the navy sees them first.

Now the latest from HHS

Robert Kennedy’s HHS has just unveiled a new vaccine recommendation and a new food pyramid. No longer are 17 shots recommended to be taken by our children. The new number is 10. Kennedy said this was emulating peer nations. In this case the “peer” nation is Denmark which has a smaller and more homogeneous population. I am not saying that Denmark’s schedule is inappropriate for the US but let’s not call it a “peer.” Kennedy has long been in the anti-vax camp but as HHS points out “No vaccine is being banned or removed. Every vaccine currently recommended by the CDC remains available, fully covered by insurance, without cost sharing. No family will lose access to vaccines.” 

The vaccines removed are for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), hepatitis A, hepatitis B, dengue, meningococcal ACWY, and meningococcal B. Those can be included through consultation between parents and their doctors. I would be shocked if the majority of the doctors did not recommend that their patients continue with the old full vaccine schedule. In large part the medical establishment has criticized HHS for removing these vaccines. Also the states, not the federal government, have the authority requiring the vaccinations of school children. It will be interesting to see which, if any, adopt HHS’s recommendations. The doctors’ groups without exception have said that the changes were made without evidence that the current schedule was harming children. It was pointed out that one, rotavirus, could return if vaccination ended, he added. That diarrheal disease once hospitalized thousands of children each winter, something that no longer happens. BTW, the decision was made without input from an advisory committee that typically consults on the vaccine schedule. 

Then there is the food pyramid. The new one actually inverts the old one, deemphasizing grains and low-fat foods and placing more importance on dairy and meat proteins. Gone are ultra-processed foods and added sugars. Some of the multitude of folk who dislike RFK, Jr have pointed out that half of the panel making the recommendations have ties to the dairy and meat industries. But seriously, does anyone pay any attention to the government’s food pyramid? But hey, maybe if you adopted this new food pyramid you too could look like Robert Kennedy, Jr.!

  1. What buffoonery we’re going to witness in NYC! The freaks and geeks of the wild socialist left are loud and proud….right up until the first question is dropped. It would be good if you were required to take 3 quality Econ courses and 2 accounting courses at a legitimate (good luck with consensus there) university before being allowed to be considered for public office. The utopians never see or care about the cost side of behavioral economics; they literally assume (most dangerous word in the lexicon) that landlords will react as they always have and ignore the economic consequences of rent control. What buffoonery.

    1. Pat, your statement is OK. But doesn’t include examples of capitalism leaning on government.
      The airlines agreed to a bailout, which I’ve heard they got for free. But now bailouts will invoke more government regulations..

      Every financial news service predicted the action in Venezuela.
      That business would be in Venezuela shortly…
      We The People didn’t predict this – because we are not paying attention to corporations- they knew..
      If Big Oil does go into Venezuela,
      it ‘s because they followed the military.

    2. Buffoonery is so apt. The lunatics are running the asylum. It should be fun to see what unfolds. Actually they want to bankrupt the landlords and have the city take possession of rental properties. Watch the quality of housing deteriorate further.

      1. Can you imagine the quality of those slums once the city owns them? Is there anything the city can do that would be efficient and of reasonable quality?

        I just came out of a 40 year career in the food industry, and can tell you that the large industrial engine is as corrupt as we might think. They pay off researchers to claim that their products are healthy, and they know full well that they’re not only hazardous to your health, but if they can apply current and new flavor combinations, they’ll get you addicted.

        It’s truly as simple as our thin grandparents preached. If you want to see the evil that was cast on this country and its food industry, just read about Ancel Keys. He lied about the data, and waged a 40 year war on fat.

        Also – read the data, especially that presented by Nina Teicholz and Gary Taubes. The enemy is sugar – not (right) fats. Trans fats – the staple of the Standard American Diet and industrial processed food – are the enemy….butter, olive and coconut oils, avocado oil (and the fruit) are all wonderful. Protein should be king – the full list – beef, eggs, chicken, pork, seafood. Green leafy vegetables (all that grow above ground) are great….but alot of fruits and vegetables otherwise can really injure those who are sensitive to it as the goal of a vegetable and fruit is to survive, so its outer skin can be a problem for alot of people. Dr. Ken Berry (Nashville based) wrote a great book, “Lies my Doctor told Me,” whose focus is on the fact that regular doctors have very little nutritional training, and are focused on treatment vs. prevention.

        Its just a sad fact….we’ve been lied to and America is brutally sick and fat as a result.

      2. You are so right. Sugar, ultra processed foods, trans fats, fast foods, pesticides, dyes. Its a wonder that life expectancy has increased. But didn’t they tell us once to eat small portions of meat?

      3. Yes, “they” did. But it’s the same people who allowed heavy carbs to dominate the bottom the pyramid, and talked “low fat” while pushing high sugar (which is low fat). The really evil triplets are when fat and carb come together….those are called cookies, cakes and all sorts of sundries that do not like me…..or my clothing….

  2. The last campaign I stumped for was Glenn Jacobs, who said he was a libertarian- until during a debate he went Republican.
    Candidates do make promises and only learn WHO they are , when the bribes come in..
    Mamdani will fail unless the entire population of NYC gets on board. And if people get active, well…..Success or not- that’s democracy even in socialism..

    The prices of homes and rent corresponds to the term limited schedule of Glenn Jacobs and Larson Jay . Newcomers a lot smarter than me say they are here because of a bipartisan effort is to get the better- educated to come , to drive the economy, because Bubba and D’Jerome are hillbillies and spooks. And we , government, can drive them away by driving the real estate..

    My TN Farm Bureau newspaper is pushing whole milk. By providing dispensaries instead of cartons . TFBN says this is not to take away choice: skim and 2% are still available. But we see school control and GOVERNMENT involved . So you know there’s payola..
    Here is the bigger issue about choice. Isn’t soy milk made fm soy? And isn’t soybean one of the leading crops in TN? Why is the TN Farm Bureau not promoting soy milk?

    1. Some things just don’t sound appetizing and soy “milk” is one of them. At least we can use those soy beans that the Chinese didn’t buy. As to the New York rental market “progressive replacement theory” is perfect – and it made me laugh.
