Random Thoughts #89
Trump and Hegseth. Obama. Just Wondering. France.
Trump and Hegseth
I saw a headline that said “Trump Cancels Hegseth’s Public Execution.” I bet there were multitudes of people out there who were disappointed.
This may be the first misstep by Hegseth that was recognized by Trump because he has offered no pushback on the other undertakings by the ex-Fox Secretary of Defense. As someone said, “Trump can be talked out of a bad decision — so long as it is not his own.” There is little doubt that of Trump’s cabinet, Hegseth will be target number one of the democrats when they come back to power following the midterms. He will be impeached — although not convicted — and nothing he wants will come out of the new Congress. Trump, however, is stubborn and will not fire him. Rather, one really frightening thought out there is that when Marsha Blackburn is elected governor of Tennessee, she will appoint Hegseth as her replacement — Hegseth is a Tennessee resident.
Gad!
Obama goes off the deep (left) end
Obama, unlike all his predecessors, has not gone quietly. He is back on the campaign trail rallying the troops to get socialists elected. He has gone from El-Sayed in Michigan (who says he is not a socialist, wink, wink) to Florida’s Angie Dixon, a full-blown, card-carrying member of the Democratic Socialists of America who is campaigning on free childcare, a national rent freeze, and a 5% wealth tax to fund “direct payments to households earning under $150,000 a year.”
What’s with that? I actually don’t think Obama is a socialist, and if he is, he is a very rich one living in his several ritzy homes (like Bernie Sanders). I think he just hates republicans and is trying to persuade blacks that they need to vote against their own self-interest and elect socialists, even though they voted against those same socialists in the primaries. But I think he will fail and that both Dixon and El-Sayed will lose because blacks will sit this one out. Blacks may love Obama, but they are not duped by him.
Just wondering
If El-Sayed does win in Michigan, does he get a security clearance? Can he sit on the Intelligence Committee? If so, any rational US agent abroad should resign. Do Muslims elected to Congress swear allegiance to the Constitution “so help me God?” Maybe. They are not required to say it if it conflicts with their beliefs, since the Constitution itself says no religious test is required for public office.
France
Trump said: “France is right now burning down because it opens its borders to people who hate it.” Well, if they hate it, then why did they come in the first place? Did they learn to hate it? Why? I have always assumed that when people immigrated to America, legally or illegally, they were pursuing the American Dream, and that they and their offspring would eventually assimilate.
Polish-Americans, Asian-Americans, African-Americans, Jewish-Americans and Catholic-Americans all end up being American-Americans. So if France (and the rest of the EU) allowed in millions of immigrants, why did those immigrants come if they were not pursuing the French Dream — if there is such a thing? Letting in hundreds of thousands of people who neither share French values nor aspire to them would signal nothing but trouble to most rational people. But as someone pointed out, “Admitting people who don’t uphold French values is only half the problem. The other half is that the French themselves don’t appear to believe in anything.” That’s the rub. What do the French believe in? What is the French national identity? What are the common values? In school we were told it was “liberty, equality and fraternity” — the famous revolutionary triad. So far, so good, but is there a French Dream, like the American Dream? If there were, the immigrants would have assimilated into the French culture, rather than trying to destroy it.
Vive la France!
